2022 MLS Cup Odds Examined | Who Is Going To Win The MLS?

With the 2022 Major League Soccer season approaching crunch time, who is looking like the best bet when it comes to closing the campaign with the biggest pieces of silverware? North America’s premier football competition has certainly delivered the goods this season when it’s come to entertainment, and there are a whole host of sides that look like they could pose a real threat when it comes to the postseason. The playoffs love to throw plenty of twists and turns, but why not check out SinkorSwimSports as we run through which teams are currently leading our 2022 MLS Cup odds.

Los Angeles FC +550

Current Position: 1st

Steve Cherundolo took the reins as Los Angeles FC head coach at the beginning of the 2022 season, inheriting a side that had looked out of sorts and finished outside the playoffs under Bob Bradley the previous year.

However the Black and Gold have been the MLS’ pace-setters right from their 3-0 opening day win over Colorado. With the second-most amount of goals scored (48) and second-fewest conceded (24), the team have been superbly consistent, only dropping points three times at home all season. What’s more, the recent arrivals of two experienced European superstars in Giorgio Chiellini and Gareth Bale have made LAFC look even more imperious than before.

In short, it’s theirs to lose at the moment.

Philadelphia Union +800

Current Position: 3rd

Jim Curtain’s Philadelphia Union finished 2nd in the stacked 2021 Eastern Conference, and have carried this strong showing with them into the 2022 season. Currently 3rd in the overall table, the Union have only lost three times all season and are still unbeaten at home currently.

They’ve also conceded the fewest amount of goals in the 2022 MLS, with their 18 goals against six clear of LAFC at the top of the defensive charts. The team are only six points off LAFC in the hunt for the Supporters’ Shield, have beaten New York City twice already, and arguably have the most amount of recent playoff experience out of any other side in 2022 our MLS Cup odds.

New York City FC +1200

Current Position: 4th

One of the most consistent sides in recent Major League Soccer history as well as one of its biggest names, it seems mad to think New York City FC only won their first honor with their MLS Cup triumph in 2021. Given the host of star-studded names they’ve had on the pitch and in the dugout, it was a trophy long overdue.

The team made an impressive start to 2022 as champions under Ronny Delia, and still only sit three points behind Philadelphia Union in the Eastern Conference. With that being said, the team have lost Delia and star talisman, Valentín Castellanos, for the remainder of the season, with the pair departing for Standard Liège and Girona respectively. Big blows.

Talles Mango, New York City FC 2022
Talles Mango has three goals in 18 appearances for NYCFC this year

New York Red Bulls +2500

Current Position: 6th

NYCFC’s Hudson River rivals, the New York Red Bulls have been a side we’ve been excited by ever since the second half of 2021. The youngest squad in the MLS 2022, Gerhard Struber’s side have entertained throughout the campaign with their energetic and attacking systems of play.

Players like Jon Tolkin, Lewis Morgan, Frankie Amaya, and Dru Yearwood have all impressed, and the team looks a good bet for another playoff appearance this year. The inexperience of this young side has shown through at times, leading to some inconsistent results compared to other teams on this list, however, there’s a ceiling involved with the Red Bulls that few other sides in the division can point to possessing.

Minnesota United +3300

Current Position: 8th

Undoubtedly one of the biggest outsiders in the list of teams still with a (semi-realistic) shot of winning the 2022 MLS Cup, Minnesota United shot to everyone’s attention this season when they beat Premier League ever-presents Everton 4-0 in a preseason friendly

Minnesota made the semi-finals of the 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs, but only reached the first round of the postseason in 2021. In truth, Adrian Heath’s side have been a bit ‘all or nothing’ for our liking this season, often going through decent spells without a loss, but always making it consecutive defeats when they do slip up. They are currently 8th in the table, a hefty 16 points off the summit.

Austin FC +5000

Current Position: 3rd

And finally, the outside bet to beat them all. Austin FC have had a remarkable 2022 season so far, and are comfortably the biggest success story from the MLS this season.

No Texan side managed to qualify for the playoffs in 2021, but Austin look set to feature this season, despite 2022 being just their second appearance in the MLS. The team are currently 3rd(!) in the overall table and have been LAFC’s greatest threat in the Western Conference over the course of the campaign.

The team were the first side in the 2022 MLS to find the net fifty times this season, and they remain the division’s most prolific goalscorers. Their darkhorse surge this season has been great to watch, and don’t sleep on their chances of producing the ultimate fairytale story once the postseason playoffs get underway.
