Sean O’Malley, who made his professional debut in July 2017 against Alfred Khashakyan, is desperate to continue his ascent of the bantamweight pile with a win against the venerable Petr Yan at the Etihad Arena.
‘Sugar’ is riding a 4-fight winning streak – with notable victories against Kris Moutinho and Raulian Paiva – and has gifted the fans with some thigh-rubbing moments in the cage lately.
O’Malley’s last battle in the cage ended in heartbreak for his opponent Pedro Munhoz – who suffered an accidental eye poke – forcing the veteran brawler to retire serving up O’Malley a no-contest victory.

Yan’s only two blemishes on his fight card are against the unstoppable Sterling – the Russian was disqualified at UFC 259 after throwing an illegal knee at the downed Sterling. In the process, Yan relinquished his 135lbs belt and has failed to capture it back.
Yan, who joined the franchise in 2018, exploded onto the scene putting a plethora of household names to the sword. Jose Aldo and Cory Sandhagen fell to the former bantamweight champions’ wrath – stringing together a phenomenal 7-fight winning streak before Sterling snapped it.
