Spain vs. Costa Rica: Early World Cup Odds, Predictions And Head-to-Head Record

The stage is set and the 2010 World Cup winners Spain look to clash with Costa Rica in their Qatar 2022 World Cup opener on November 23.

With both sides opting for a more defensive outlook – this duel could be a lot closer than what’s on paper.

However, with Japan and heavyweight hitters Germany all occupying the same group, La Roja will make sure they capture all three points against the South American outfit.

Under 2.5 goals and both teams to score at +1100 is our first Spain vs. Costa Rica prediction.

Check here for the full rundown on the World Cup betting odds, the two teams’ head-to-head record and where and what time the match is on locally.

Alvaro Moratta
Alvaro Moratta will be looking to make an indelible mark at Qatar 2022

Spain will be hoping to put the Russia 2018 World Cup behind them after a shock exit to hosts Russia on penalties in the last 16 – sending their manager Julen Lopetegui packing just two days before the match only thwarted their plight.

Spain manager Luis Enrique is back behind the wheel and has implemented stability for the 2010 World Cup winners – qualifying in more than convincing fashion.

La Furia Roja scored 22 goals through qualifying, putting Georgia to the sword 4-0, beating Greece 1-0 and mauling Iceland 5-0 to punctuate their place in Qatar in the last game.

Spain finished 4 points clear at the top of Group B, with their only bump in the road being a 2-1 loss to Sweden.

European heavyweights Spain have had mixed fortunes at this year’s Nations League – opening the group with a 1-1 draw to Portugal, drawing with the Czech Republic 2-2 and losing to Switzerland on home soil 2-1.

Atletico Madrid’s hitman Alvaro Moratta turned up when he was needed most and salvaged Spain’s Nations League hopes after snatching a place in the final four with a late 88-minute goal against former Euro champions Portugal.

Alvaro Moratta, Ferran Torres, Koke and Sergios Ramos are a host of names that Spain has to unleash at Qatar.

Our Prediction
DRAW HALF TIME SPAIN FULL TIME  +275

Costa Rica has now successfully qualified for its sixth World Cup and will be hoping to mirror its 2014 quarter-final appearance here in Qatar.

The South American giants qualified by the skin of their teeth – beating New Zealand 1-0 in the intercontinental playoff to seal the last qualifying spot for the tournament.

A drab 0-0 against Panama, a 1-0 loss to Mexico and a 1-1 draw with Jamaica proved nearly fatal for their World Cup qualification journey.

The South American outfit rallied and ground out results against Canada, Panama and the USA to set up their pivotal final game with New Zealand – eventually booking a spot on the plane to Qatar.

Costa Rica landed in the coined group of death (Group E) – with Japan, Germany and Spain all vying for supremacy and will be already seen as underdogs to climb the ladder to the last 16. Los Ticos are +1200 to qualify and +5000 to win Group E.

Joel Campbell, Champions League-winning goalkeeper Keylor Navas, midfielder Celso Borges and skipper Bryan Ruiz – formerly of Fulham all add phenomenal value to an already capable Costa Rica World Cup squad.

Spain vs. Costa Rica Head-To-Head

The two sides have gone toe-to-toe on 3 separate occasions – with European heavyweight Spain winning all three. La Furia Roja put won 5-0 in November 2017 against Costa Rica, 2-1 in June 2015 and 5-1 in November 2011.

Spain vs. Costa Predictions

BETUS in the US has made their predictions for this match. Spain will be looking to start this game off with a high-tempo optimizing their heavy-possession-based game and anything but a win will be a huge disappointment for  Luis Enrique’s men. Spain opens as an overwhelming favorite at -420 and is -120 to win Group E.

Meanwhile, minnows Costa Rica arrive at the contest at +1200 underdog to win the match and a whopping +1200 just to progress out of the group. We are going with a Spain win and both teams to score at +300.
