Women’s 2022 Eliminator Preview – Southern Brave vs Trent Rockets

The Southern Brave skipped over the Eliminator last year and qualified straight to the final, and looked for all the world like they were set to do the same again in 2022. The Brave won their first five fixtures of the season, with their sole loss against the Northern Superchargers and the Oval Invincibles’ 32-run win over the Manchester Originals seeing them swap places on the last day of the group stage.

The Brave will have home advantage against the Trent Rockets, who finished 3rd in the Women’s table with a 3-3 record. One of three teams that finished with 6 points this season, the Rockets’ net run-rate of 0.101 put them comfortably ahead of the Birmingham Phoenix and Superchargers to qualify for the Eliminator.

Southern Brave won by a comprehensive 10 wickets earlier this year, restricting the Trent Rockets to just 88/8 (100 balls) on 25 August.

Men’s 2022 Eliminator Preview – Manchester Originals vs London Spirit

Jos Buttler’s injury means we’re robbed of seeing the present vs past England skipper duel here. The Manchester Originals booked their place in this year’s Eliminator on the back of five consecutive wins during the group stage, racking up a hefty net run-rate of 0.908 (the best in The Hundred 2022), leapfrogging the London Spirit and Birmingham Phoenix on 10 points.

Under a rejuvenated Eoin Morgan and veteran coach Trevor Bayliss, the London Spirit had been the early pace-setters in The Hundred 2022, but three losses in their final four games saw them drop to 3rd in the table at the end of the group stage.

Neither the Originals nor the Spirit made it to the Eliminator last year. Eoin Morgan got the better of Jos Buttler the last time these sides met in The Hundred, with the Spirit reaching 160/6 and winning by a comfortably 52 runs on 8 August.
