- The Hundred 2022 Eliminator: Everything You Need To Know
- What Is Batting Strike Rate, And Why Does It Matter?
57 Matches across a solid month in the cricketing calendar, the 2022 season of The Hundred is all set to conclude with two tasty-looking finals. Four different sides have qualified for the men’s and women’s finals, though its fair to say that not all of these teams were necessarily the ones we were expecting to see when the schedule was first revealed. Check out SinkorSwimSports as we run through everything you need to know about finals day, as well our Hundred 2022 final predictions.
When Is The Hundred Final 2022?
The Hundred 2022 final is all set to get underway on Saturday 3rd September 2022. Like with last year’s edition, the match will be held at Lord’s, the home of cricket.
The women’s final is due to start at 15:00, with the men’s on at 18:30.
How Does The Final Work?
Like with most other double-headers in the competition, The Hundred 2022 final will see fans get the chance to watch both the men’s and women’s matches with their match ticket. Both finals will see two halves of 100 balls (20 fewer than a T20 match), with all the same rules on fielding restrictions and cut-off times still in play.
Both finals will be available to watch for free on BBC Two, BBC iPlayer, BBC Sport online and Sky Sports. With The Hundred always keen to make these matches feel like a true entertainment spectacle, there will also be a performance from Brit award winners Bastille at the ground.
The Hundred final does have a reserve day, however, the weather forecast looks good so we shouldn’t need it (hopefully).
Who Is In The Hundred Final 2022?
In the women’s final, the Southern Brave were able to overcome a dramatic challenge from the Trent Rockets in the Eliminator and book their place in the final. They will face the Oval Invincibles at Lords in a matchup between undoubtedly the two best sides in this year’s competition.
For the men’s final, Laurie Evans’ Manchester Originals overcame Eoin Morgan’s London Spirit in the Eliminator to qualify for The Hundred 2022 final. The Originals will face the Trent Rockets, who will be the favourite with most bookmakers after finishing top of the group stage.
Oval Invincibles vs Southern Brave Preview
The Oval Invincibles won last year’s edition of The Hundred and topped the table this season, pipping the Southern Brave on the final day of the group stage. The Brave have also been one of the dominant forces in the women’s Hundred over the past two seasons, topping the table last year and winning their first five games in 2022.
Despite predicting the Invincibles at the beginning of the tournament, we think the Brave have shown a bit more skill throughout the campaign in 2022 and are now the team to beat.
Trent Rockets vs Manchester Originals
Unlike the women’s edition, the men’s Hundred final will see two entirely new faces in 2022. The Trent Rockets were knocked out in the Eliminator last year, but have bounced back superbly this year on the back of some stellar batting from Dawid Malan and Alex Hales especially. The Manchester Originals started slowly this year but, since the injury to Jos Buttler, have won six matches in a row, including their Eliminator win over the London Spirit on Friday night.
It looks like a battle of the batting here, with both sides possessing two opening pairs that look set to be the deciding factor here. We’re backing the Trent Rockets to get the job done, however, mainly due to the imperious form of Dawid Malan this season.
