The Hundred 2022 Schedule, Predictions, And Cricket Odds Analysed

England’s newest cricketing competition has proven to be an eye-catching, albeit controversial, addition to the calendar. Initially slated for 2020, The Hundred was intended to be the ECB’s answer to the hugely lucrative white-ball franchise leagues in India, Australia, the West Indies, and Pakistan, as well as open up the sport to a new demographic of fans. And whilst some might bemoan the increased pace of the game and its preferential treatment in the summer schedule, there’s no denying The Hundred 2021 proved to be a real success. With this year’s edition on the horizon, SinkorSwimSports takes you through The Hundred 2022 schedule, with all of our cricket predictions, tips, and latest odds ahead of the tournament!

What Is The Hundred?

The Hundred is a new format of the game designed specifically by the ECB for their white-ball franchise tournament. The format sees two innings of a hundred balls for each side and was specifically designed to entice in a new younger demographic of fans as the fastest format of the game.

As a tournament, The Hundred is the first franchise cricket tournament to place equal weight on the men’s and women’s games. The prize pool is worth the same for both the men’s and the women’s editions, the women’s games were streamed free-to-air, and one ticket to a game gives access to both the men’s and women’s fixtures that day.

The Hundred 2022 Schedule In Full

Aiming to capitalize on the British summer holidays, the 2022 season of The Hundred will kick off on August 3rd at 19:00 BST with 2021 men’s champions Southern Brave hosting Welsh Fire. The women’s edition will start on August 11th at 18:30 with Oval Invincibles vs Northern Superchargers.

There will be 56 matches in the group stage (32 men’s, 24 women’s), with the final being hosted on Lord’s on 3rd September.

Who Is Competing In The Hundred 2022?

Like with the 2021 edition, The Hundred 2022 will be contested by eight men and women teams representing different counties around England and Wales. In all, the Hundred 2022 teams are:

  • Southern Brave
  • Birmingham Phoenix
  • Oval Invincibles
  • Welsh Fire
  • Northern Superchargers
  • London Spirit
  • Manchester Originals
  • Trent Rockets

What Format Will The Hundred 2022 Be?

As the name would suggest, the 2022 season of the Hundred will be played in the 100-ball format. Designed for faster (The Hundred matches only last roughly two and a half hours), more action-packed matches, the format revolves around both sides batting for exactly one hundred balls (or until they are fully bowled out).

Twenty balls fewer than in a T20 match, bowlers bowl in bursts of five or ten, with there being a change of ends after ten deliveries. A strategic timeout of two and a half minutes can be used by either side, with each innings opening with a 25-ball powerplay where only two fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard inner circle.

Who Won The Hundred 2021?

The 2021 season of The Hundred saw Southern Brave dominate the women’s season, topping the table with 7 wins and just 1 loss. They lost The Hundred 2021 women’s final by a hefty 48 runs against Oval Invincibles.

Spurred on by Liam Livingstone with the bat and Adam Milne with the ball, Birmingham Phoenix topped the 2021 men’s Hundred table. However, they also lost in the final, with Southern Brave winning by 32 runs.

Who Is Going To Win The Hundred 2022?

We wanted to wait until The Hundred 2022 auction played out before making our final cricket predictions for the season. With the bump in wages for the men’s teams and total freedom the women’s sides have when it comes to their reshuffles, there could be some major shakeups on the table this year.

The Oval Invincibles are currently the leading force in our Hundred betting odds at +375. The 2021 women’s Hundred champions might have finished some ways behind Southern Brave in the table, but absolutely battered them in a mightily impressive final display. Tash Farrant is a real difference-maker with the ball, taking the most wickets (18) in the competition, whilst South African captain Dane van Niekerk also finished with the most runs (259).

Women's 2022 Hundred Prediction

Had it not been for a stunning run out to dismiss Liam Livingstone in the 2021 men’s Hundred final, the Birmingham Phoenix would have almost certainly won the men’s tournament. And, whilst Southern Brave is once again leading the cricket odds with their wealth of talent at +400, we think the Birmingham Phoenix might be the ones to watch again.

With the likes of Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Will Smeed, and Adam Milne all returning this year, don’t sleep on the Phoenix at +600.
