It’s reaching crunch time in the MLS 2022 Western Conference. Vanni Sartini’s first full season in charge of the Vancouver Whitecaps has, so far, been a bit of a mixed bag with the side languishing down in 12th heading into this round of midweek fixtures. With four games left of their MLS 2022 schedule, the Whitecaps are seven points adrift of the postseason playoffs, meaning things are about as close to ‘must-win’ as they could get. Check out SinkorSwimSports as the side host another team in desperate need of points with our Vancouver vs LA Galaxy preview and predictions.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs LA Galaxy Preview
We’ve been known to enjoy a wager or two in our time here at SinkorSwimSports, but even we wouldn’t put money on the Vancouver Whitecaps making it to the MLS playoffs this season. The Canadian outfit haven’t been especially ‘bad’ this season, averaging 11.5 shots and 43% possession per ninety, but it’s fair to say their sorry start to the campaign has just given them an impossible mountain to climb.
Having lost six and won only one of their first eight games, the Whitecaps recorded three consecutive losses for the first time since April with a 3-1 loss to Colorado on September 11. They’ve scored some impressive wins over the likes of LAFC and the Colorado Rapids; with that being said, only SanjJose, Toronto, and D.C. United have conceded more than the side’s 54 GA.
As for LA Galaxy, the march for the playoffs has hardly been easy for Greg Vanney’s star-studded side. 3 Points off the postseason positions, albeit with a game in hand on Real Salt Lake, the Galaxy have drawn three games in succession heading into their match at BC Place.
Penalties have been the number one issue for the side in recent weeks, with Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez missing consecutive spot kicks against Sporting Kansas City and Nashville, denying the Galaxy an extra four points.

LA Galaxy Wins
- Riqui Puig’s stoppage-time penalty against Nashville took the Spaniard to 2 goals and 2 assists in his first four MLS starts.
- With just 29.5% of their shots going on target, Vancouver Whitecaps are the least accurate side in the 2022 MLS.
- LA Galaxy’s 5-2 win over the Whitecaps was the first instance of either of these scoring five or more in their meetings.
- However, the Galaxy haven’t won two matches against Vancouver in a single MLS season since 2014.
Vancouver Whitecaps vs LA Galaxy Prediction And Latest Odds
In our latest MLS 2022 betting odds over at BETUS, LA Galaxy are actually favorites to score a badly needed road win at +135. Vancouver are available to back at +170, with a draw priced at +250.
With neither of these sides particularly adept at keeping the ball out of the net right now, you can get odds on both teams to score at -200.
Our prediction here is that the latest MLS odds have been a little bit conservative in backing the Galaxy. The side undoubtedly has another gear to go to and, with points at a premium now, we’re expecting them to step it up big time during their trip north of the border.
