How Many Grand Slams Has Medvedev Won?

Let’s address the elephant in the room now. How many Grand Slam titles has Daniil Medvedev won? 

1 is the answer. Medvedev claimed his first Grand Slam in 2021 when he won the US Open against tennis titan Novak Djokovic. The Russian stunned the Serbian superstar winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, which, in turn, denied Djokovic a historic Calendar Slam. 

Since unlocking his trophy cabinet back in 2021, Medvedev has not added to his Grand Slam tally and still possesses a single US Open title in regards to Grand Slam titles. 

So how has Medvedev fared since his historic US Open win on the Grand Slam circuit?

The 2021 Australian Open final against Nadal ended in heartbreak for the 6’6 behemoth, as Medvedev relinquished a 2-set lead, losing to the Grand Slam kingpin Nadal 6-2, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 4-6, 5-7. 

The Russian’s poor form on clay continued at the 2022 French Open as he fell short against Croatia’s Marin Cilic 2-6, 3-6, 2-6 in the 4th round. 

Another fourth-round exit at the 2022 US Open as the defending champion added more salt into the wound, especially against the loquacious Nick Kyrgios 6-7 (11), 6-2, 3-6, 2-6. 

Most recently, Medvedev lost to America’s Sebastian Korda in the third round of the 2023 Australian Open 6-7 (7), 3-6, 6-7 (4). 

How Many ATP Masters 1000 Has Medvedev Won?

Medvedev has won 4 ATP Masters 1000 competitions since his inaugural arrival in 2017. 

The Moscow-born Medvedev first triumphed at the ATP Masters 1000 in 2019 in Cincinnati, where he put the plucky David Goffin to the sword 7-6(3), 7-4. 

Medvedev, who fully utilized his impeccable form, went on that same year and emerged victorious at the Shanghai Masters 1000 against Goffin’s fellow countryman Alexander Zverev 6-4, 6-1. 

The Russian turned the screw once again against Zverev in the 2020 Paris Masters 1000 as he wiped the German off the court 5-6, 6-4, 6-1. 

It seemed Medvedev finally had something to show for his efforts and punctuated his most recent success with another Masters 1000, this time in Canada’s mecca for sport, Toronto. The huge-serving Russian dispatched fellow powerhouse Reilly Opelka 6-4, 6-3 in a riveting 2021 Toronto final. 

Most recently, Medvedev has seen a handful of deep runs in Masters 1000s, losing to Novak Djokovic in the final of the 2021 Paris Masters 6-4, 3-6, 3-6 and was shellshocked at Indian Wells by the star-studded Carlos Alcaraz 3-6, 2-6.

How Many ATP Titles Has Medvedev Won?

Medvedev has won 17 ATP titles to date. Medvedev has won a long list of accolades since his first ATP Next Gen Finals win in 2017 Milan. 

The Russian’s first ATP 250 title win was in Sydney against native Alex Di Minaur, after a convincing comeback, winning 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 in 2018. 

He went on to win the Winston-Salem Open in 2018 against Steve Johnson 6-4, 6-4. 

A win against Kei Nikishori 6-2, 6-4 in Tokyo’s 2018 ATP 250 cemented the Russian’s supremacy in beating players on their own soil. In what became a strange coincidence, Medvedev had beaten home players in the final in the last 3 tournaments he’d won. 

Next was ATP 250 Sofia, Bulgaria, where Medvedev beat Marton Fucsovics in the final 6-4, 6-3.

A win on home soil in the 2019 St Petersburg ATP 250 against Borna Coric 6-3, 6-1 continued the Russian’s fine form. 

Medvedev threw the kitchen sink at Austria’s Dominic Thiem at the 2020 Nitto ATP Finals in the UK’s capital as he overturned a first-set loss 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4. 

A win over Matteo Berrettini 6-4, 6-2 at the 2021 ATP Cup in Melbourne added another title to the Russian’s belt.  

The towering Russian secured the 2021 Mallorca ATP 250 after vanquishing Sam Querry in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. 

2022 saw Medvedev win a Los Cabos ATP 250 against Cameron Norrie 7-5, 6-0 and a Vienna ATP 500 against Canada’s Denis Shapovalov 4-6, 6-3. 6-2.

Medvedev’s 2023 year on tour so far has been solid, winning Rotterdam ATP 500 against Jannik Sinner 5-7. 6-2, 6-2, a Doha ATP 250 win against the venerable Andy Murray 6-4, 6-4 and most recently a Dubai ATP 500 win against fellow countryman Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-2. 

How Many Grand Slam Semi-Finals and Finals Has Medvedev Appeared In?

Medvedev has appeared in a total of 5 semi-finals and concurred 4 finals in Grand Slam competitions. The Russian’s first deep run in a Grand Slam was the 2019 US Open, where he lost out in the final to a reinvigorated Rafa Nadal 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, 4-6.  

Medvedev lost the next year back at the 2020 US Open in the semi-finals to eventual winner Dominic Thiem 2-6, 6-7 (7), 6-7 (5). Medvedev had no chance against an unplayable Thiem and vowed to return stronger.  

The hard-serving 6’6” Russian returned to a Slam final at the 2021 Australian Open against tennis kingpin Novak Djokovic. It was not to be as Djokovic won in straight sets 5-7, 2-6, 2-6. 

Finally, Medvedev had something to show for his efforts at the 2021 US Open as he emerged a maiden Grand Slam champion. Not only did he beat the Serbian, but he also foiled Novak Djokovic’s potential Calendar Slam prospects with a convincing win in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, Medvedev had achieved his first Grand Slam. 

The 2022 Australian Open final dealt the Russian gruelling heartbreak as an imperious Rafa Nadal battled back from 2 sets down to beat Medvedev 2-6, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 in what proved to be a lung-busting final. 

2022 proved to be a frustrating year for Medvedev, as he failed to progress past the 4th round at the French Open, and US Open and was denied a place at Wimbledon over world conflict.
